Following God's Will (II)
From an earlier season · raw & unedited
Romans 12: 1-2
" Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
NLV puts it like this.
" And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
I have some huge decisions to make, and reguardless of the outcome of those decisions the internal working of the Spirit has been as real in the struggle to decide as ever before. Therefore I am learning that following God is a moment by moment, day by day thing. You see, If I am consumed with worrying about what the exact "will of God" is than I miss his will for this very moment. I miss his will for me to sit down and type this note, because I'm to consumed with my own internal decision. I love how Romans puts it, that we are to offer our bodies to God, a living sacrifice. If you take that for what it says, then we can see that the number one step to following the will of God doesn't happen just in our mind, but in a very real day by day, moment by moment basis. A LIVING sacrifice. Thats a key! I'm always living if im truly in Christ, which is the way to know his will. It happens with our bodies and our minds and our souls and our thoughts and our actions...we are always attached to these parts of ourselves. It talks elsewhere in scripture about how our bodies are a temple of God. So while Ive been searching for a clear communication from God on what he would have me to do to follow his will in the "big" decision, I have missed his current will for my life, and that is to walk by faith. To be renewed by Christ daily, and not be conformed.
Life seems to be a thing of constant change. Even if we don't realize it, we are walking daily and being conformed in every moment of our life. Every moment that passes changes time and space, and changes our perception, and changes our actions, and that changes everything. I can rightfully put no more emphasis on that "huge" decision as I can on living in the will of God RIGHT NOW. Why should I neglect one and consider the other? It seems to me that I would be missing the point.
So to sum this all up, its pretty clear what Paul is saying. Look everyone! You want to know the will of God, but I tell you the truth, its happening right now! Even in this moment it is unfolding before us, so consider this and then you will see that we should walk in this moment following Christ even now! We shouldn't in the moment be formed by this world and what it would have for us, but we should be renewed and emboldened and formed by Christ, who transforms us! If you live like this, always, then when the world throws big decisions to you, you will already have made the biggest decision of all, and that is to follow God even now, and even now! Then because you have done this you will know, and will be able to test what is GOOD, what is PLEASING, and what is PERFECT! For you will be able to discern in your transformed self the will of Christ who will become your actions as he leads you on!
There it is. As Clear as day.
