⬡ View on Map 🔒 Sign in to edit

Not all authority absences are equivalent. The nature of the absence shapes the appropriate response and the degree of structural disruption.

Ideal / Ordered Reading
Community has clear protocols for each type.
Present / Collapsed Reading
These protocols rarely exist; must be constructed case by case.
Answer Notes

Three primary types: (1) Death — father deceased, daughter becomes ward of community/elders; (2) Estrangement — father living but relationship broken, most complex; (3) Apostasy/Disqualification — father living but has forfeited authority by abandoning Torah covenant.

Sub-Questions
  • Does the type of absence affect the daughter's covenantal status?
  • Which type is most common in collapsed conditions?
Tensions / Objections
  • The estranged father complicates matters — he may assert authority he has abdicated in practice
Practical Implications
  • Each type requires a different structural response
